Visa introduced AI Financial Assistant on July 14, 2026, a new value-added service that lets banks embed a conversational, in-app experience directly into their existing mobile apps — another sign that the line between a bank app and an AI financial advisor is starting to blur.

What Visa announced
The service will respond to natural-language questions grounded in a cardholder’s own financial activity, surface proactive monthly spending insights without any manual setup, and let users take action mid-conversation — such as locking a card or setting an alert. As reported by PYMNTS, the tool is powered by Visa’s Data & AI Platform, which routes requests to multiple AI models vetted for security, accuracy, compliance, and performance, and draws on information from roughly 257 billion transactions a year. Banks can white-label the assistant under their own brand with no custom development required.
Why banks are moving now
Visa cited its own research showing 66% of Americans who already use generative AI turn to it for financial advice, and 85% of consumers say they’d share more data with their bank in exchange for clearer AI-driven value. Michele Herron, Visa’s SVP and Head of North America Value-Added Services, said the assistant “brings those strengths together, combining personalized insights based on a consumer’s own data and pairing it with the ability to act.” AI Financial Assistant is set for pilot with U.S. financial institutions in August 2026, ahead of a planned global rollout.
What it signals for AI financial advice
Visa joining the growing list of companies embedding conversational finance tools — following moves from OpenAI, fintech platforms, and regulators scrutinizing the space — underscores how quickly AI-driven guidance is becoming a default feature of everyday banking, rather than a niche add-on. For consumers, it means more banks will soon offer AI-generated insights natively, making it more important than ever to understand the difference between a data-grounded nudge from your bank app and independent, comprehensive financial advice.
